Battle of Pulkkila

The Battle of Pulkkila was a small engagement that took place on 2 June 1808 near the village of Pulkkila (now part of the municipality of Siikalatva) in what was then Swedish‑controlled Finland. The encounter occurred during the Finnish War (1808–1809), a conflict between the Kingdom of Sweden and the Russian Empire for control of the Finnish territories.

Swedish forces engaged a Russian detachment in the vicinity of Pulkkila. Contemporary accounts describe the Swedish troops as achieving a tactical victory, temporarily disrupting Russian operations in the region. The clash was one of several minor battles and skirmishes that characterized the early phase of the Finnish War, which eventually led to the cession of Finland to Russia under the Treaty of Fredrikshamn in 1809.

Detailed information about the commanders involved, the exact strength of the forces, and casualty figures is limited in widely available encyclopedic sources, and the battle is not extensively documented in major historical works. Consequently, while the event is recognized as part of the broader campaign, comprehensive data remain scarce.
