The Basketbol Süper Ligi (BSL), also known as the Turkish Basketball Super League, is the top-tier professional men's basketball division in the Turkish basketball league system. Established in 1966 by the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF), it superseded the former Turkish Basketball Championship to become the primary national competition. The league is widely considered one of the most competitive domestic basketball circuits in Europe.
The league currently operates with 16 member teams. The season structure consists of a regular season followed by a playoff tournament. During the regular season, each team plays every other participant twice, once at home and once away, for a total of 30 games. Upon the conclusion of the regular season, the eight highest-ranked teams advance to the playoffs, which utilize a knockout format to determine the national champion. Conversely, the two teams finishing at the bottom of the standings are relegated to the second-tier Turkish Basketball First League (TBL).
Historically, the league has been dominated by several Istanbul-based clubs. Anadolu Efes (formerly Efes Pilsen) holds the record for the most championship titles. Other major clubs with significant domestic and international success include Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, and Beşiktaş. Turkish clubs participating in the Basketbol Süper Ligi have also achieved high-level success in pan-European competitions, such as the EuroLeague, the EuroCup, and the Basketball Champions League.
The league has undergone various name changes due to commercial sponsorship agreements, but it remains officially recognized by FIBA and ULEB as the premier basketball competition in Turkey. Eligibility for the league requires clubs to meet specific financial and infrastructural criteria set by the Turkish Basketball Federation.
