Baseline League

Definition The Baseline League is an athletic conference composed of several public high schools primarily located in the Inland Empire region of Southern California. It operates under the governance of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section, organizing interscholastic sports competition among its member schools.

Overview Established to facilitate organized athletic competition, the Baseline League brings together schools from a concentrated geographic area, fostering rivalries and promoting sportsmanship across a wide array of CIF-sanctioned sports. The league is recognized for its competitive environment, with many of its member schools frequently achieving success in CIF Southern Section playoffs and state-level competitions. Participating schools compete in sports such as football, basketball, baseball, softball, track and field, cross country, soccer, volleyball, wrestling, and swimming, among others.

Etymology/Origin The name "Baseline League" is likely derived from Baseline Road, a significant east-west arterial road that traverses much of the Inland Empire region, passing through or near the communities where many of the league's member schools are situated. The league itself was formed as part of the broader system of high school athletic conferences within California to streamline scheduling, ensure fair competition, and adhere to CIF regulations.
