Barry R. Schaller

[[Barry R. Schaller]] (born 1938) is an American former jurist and author. He is best known for his long and distinguished career in the judiciary of the U.S. state of Connecticut, culminating in his service as a Justice of the [[Connecticut Supreme Court]]. His career also included legislative work and academic contributions.

Early Life and Education

Born in 1938, Schaller pursued his higher education at prestigious institutions. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from [[Yale University]] in 1960. He then attended the [[University of Chicago Law School]], where he was awarded his Juris Doctor (J.D.) in 1963. Later in his judicial career, he furthered his academic pursuits by obtaining a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the [[University of Virginia School of Law]] in 1994.

Career

Schaller began his professional life in private legal practice. He also served in public office as a member of the [[Connecticut House of Representatives]], representing the 106th district from 1973 to 1978.

Judicial Career

Schaller's extensive judicial career commenced in 1978 when he was appointed as a Judge of the [[Connecticut Superior Court]]. He presided over cases at this trial level until 1988. In 1988, he was elevated to the [[Connecticut Appellate Court]], serving as an appellate judge for four years. In 1992, Governor Lowell P. Weicker Jr. appointed him as an Associate Justice to the state's highest court, the [[Connecticut Supreme Court]]. Schaller served on the Supreme Court until his mandatory retirement in 2007, leaving a significant legacy in Connecticut's jurisprudence.

Post-Judicial and Academic Activities

Following his retirement from the bench, Schaller remained active in the legal and academic communities.
