Barotac Viejo is a 5th class municipality in the province of Iloilo, Philippines. According to the 2020 census conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, the municipality has a population of 34,561 people.

History
Barotac Viejo was founded during the Spanish colonial period. The name “Barotac” is believed to derive from the Hiligaynon word “bárót” meaning “bamboo,” reflecting the area’s historical abundance of bamboo resources. “Viejo” distinguishes it from the neighboring municipality of Barotac Nuevo, with “viejo” meaning “old” in Spanish.
Economy
The local economy is primarily agricultural, with rice, corn, and coconut as major crops. Fishing also contributes to livelihoods due to its coastal location. Small-scale trade and local markets serve the daily needs of residents.
