Banke 2 is a parliamentary constituency located in Banke District, Lumbini Province, Nepal. It is one of three federal constituencies in Banke District and is responsible for electing one member to the House of Representatives, the lower house of the federal parliament of Nepal.
Overview The constituency encompasses a significant portion of the Banke District. Its geographical scope includes specific administrative divisions:
- Wards 1 to 23 of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City.
- The entirety of Duduwa Rural Municipality.
- Wards 1 to 10 of Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality.
- Wards 1 to 14 of Kohalpur Municipality.
History Banke 2, along with other federal parliamentary constituencies, was established in 2017 based on the report of the Constituency Delimitation Commission (CDC). This redrawing of electoral boundaries was a consequence of the new Constitution of Nepal, promulgated in 2015, which restructured the country into a federal republic. The creation of these constituencies aimed to align electoral representation with the new federal administrative divisions.
Electoral System Like all federal parliamentary constituencies in Nepal, Banke 2 utilizes the first-past-the-post (FPTP) electoral system. In this system, the candidate who secures the highest number of votes within the constituency is declared the winner and represents the constituency in the House of Representatives.
