Overview
Bande Utkala Janani (Odia: ବନ୍ଦେ ଉତ୍କଳ ଜନନୀ) is the official state song (state anthem) of the Indian state of Odisha. The title translates to “I salute Mother Utkala,” with “Utkala” being a historic name for the region that constitutes present‑day Odisha.
Authorship and Composition
- Lyricist: Laxmikanta Mohapatra (1888 – 1963) wrote the original poem in 1912 as a patriotic appeal during the Indian independence movement.
