Description
Baeckea gunniana is a small, evergreen shrub belonging to the myrtle family (Myrtaceae). The plant typically attains heights of 0.2–1 m. Its leaves are opposite, narrow, and sharply pointed, measuring a few millimetres in length. The species produces white to pale pink, five‑petaled flowers that are borne singly or in small clusters at the ends of short branches. The flowers possess numerous stamens typical of Myrtaceae and mature into small, dry capsules containing numerous minute seeds.
Distribution and Habitat
The species is native to southeastern Australia, with confirmed occurrences in alpine and sub‑alpine regions of Tasmania and the higher elevations of the Victorian Highlands. It occupies moist, well‑drained soils in open heathland, bog margins, and rocky outcrops, often in areas subjected to regular snow cover and cold temperatures.
Ecology
