Badamlısu is a former settlement name in the Shahbuz District of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Azerbaijan. It is located approximately 12 km southwest of the district center, near the Shahbuz-Badamly highway, on the southern slope of the Daralayaz ridge, at an elevation of around 1,284–1,323 meters above sea level.
Administrative status: Until 2003, the settlement was officially known as Badamlısu (also romanized as Badamlysu). On March 1, 2003, by Law No. 423-IIQ of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Badamlısu settlement was renamed to Badamlı (qəsəbə). On March 29, 2005, the Badamlı settlement was separated from the Badamlı village administrative-territorial district to form its own settlement administrative-territorial unit, with Badamlı as its center.
History: The settlement was established in 1964 on the basis of the Badamly mineral water plant. The mineral springs in the area are believed to have emerged as a result of an earthquake at the end of the 19th century. The discovery and scientific study of the Badamlı mineral water source is attributed to geologist Aziz Asgarov, who led research in the area between 1945 and 1947. Commercial bottling of Badamlı mineral water began in 1947, making it the first bottled mineral water in Azerbaijan.
Economy and mineral water: The local population is primarily engaged in animal husbandry and the production of Badamlı mineral water. The Badamlı mineral water springs consist of five sources with a combined daily output of approximately 1.1 to 2.5 million liters. The water emerges at an altitude of 1,262–1,274 meters above sea level, with a temperature of 17–22 °C, a pH value of approximately 7.5, and total mineralization ranging from 0.4 to 7.4 g/L. The water contains bicarbonate, magnesium, calcium, sodium, potassium, iodine, bromine, copper, and boric acid. The "Badamlı-5" spring, with lower mineralization (around 450 mg/L), is classified as a table water. The water is considered beneficial for digestive, urinary tract, and certain liver conditions. The modern bottling facility, built in 2009 and expanded in 2020, has a daily production capacity of approximately 500,000 bottles and uses equipment from France's Sidel company. The brand holds ISO 22000:2018 food safety certification.
Demographics: As of 2008, the settlement had a population of 635.
Infrastructure: The settlement contains a secondary school, a culture house, a library, and a communication branch.
Cultural references: The Badamlı mineral water brand was celebrated in a song titled "Badamlı" performed by renowned Azerbaijani singer Rashid Behbudov, composed in 1960.
