The word "Babbidge" most commonly refers to the Homer D. Babbidge Library, which serves as the main library for the University of Connecticut (UConn) in Storrs, Connecticut.
The library is named in honor of Homer D. Babbidge Jr. (1925–2000), who was the seventh president of the University of Connecticut, serving from 1962 to 1973. During his presidency, Babbidge oversaw a period of significant growth and development for the university.
The original library building on the Storrs campus was dedicated in 1965. It underwent a substantial expansion and renovation project in the late 1990s, culminating in the dedication of the enlarged facility in 1998. The Homer D. Babbidge Library is a central academic resource for UConn, providing extensive collections of books, periodicals, digital resources, and multimedia materials to support the university's research and educational missions. It also features a wide array of study spaces, computer facilities, and specialized services for students, faculty, and researchers.
