William James "B. J." Surhoff (born August 4, 1964) is an American former professional baseball outfielder and catcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 17 seasons, from 1989 to 2005.
Surhoff was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers with the first overall pick in the 1985 Major League Baseball draft out of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Brewers, primarily as a catcher before transitioning to the outfield.
He later played for the Baltimore Orioles (1996–2000, 2003–2005), Atlanta Braves (2000–2002), and Arizona Diamondbacks (2002). Surhoff was known for his consistent hitting and defensive versatility. He was named an American League All-Star in 1999 while playing for the Baltimore Orioles. Over his career, he accumulated 2,097 hits, 188 home runs, and 1,159 runs batted in, with a career batting average of .289.
