Augustus Garrett

Augustus Garrett (1800 – November 28, 1848) was an American politician and businessman who served as the eighth Mayor of Chicago, Illinois, from 1845 to 1846.

Garrett was born in New York in 1800. He moved to Chicago in the early 1830s, becoming a prominent figure in the city's nascent business community. He was involved in various enterprises, including real estate and shipping, which contributed to Chicago's rapid growth during its formative years.

A member of the Democratic Party, Garrett was elected Mayor of Chicago in 1845. His single term as mayor was characterized by continued urban development and infrastructure improvements as Chicago transitioned from a frontier town to a burgeoning city. Despite his public service, Garrett's health began to decline during his later years. He died on November 28, 1848, at the age of 48.
