Background
The 1967 Summer Universiade (also known as the World Student Games) was the fifth edition of the international multi-sport event organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The athletics program was held from 30 August to 4 September at the National Olympic Stadium in Tokyo. The men's javelin throw was one of 33 athletics events contested at the games.
The competition was affected by a boycott of Eastern Bloc nations, including the Soviet Union, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, and Cuba, due to political dynamics at the time.
Gold Medalist
Dave Travis (born 9 September 1945) was a British javelin thrower from Twickenham, London. He went on to compete at the 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympics and also won the gold medal at the 1970 Commonwealth Games. His winning throw of 76.64 m in Tokyo secured Great Britain's gold medal in the event.
