Asun Martínez (full name: Ascensión Martínez Salinas; born 20 February 2002) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a forward for Valencia CF Femenino in the Spanish Liga F and for the Spain women's national team.
Early life and background
Martínez was born in Elche, Alicante, Spain. She grew up in a working-class neighborhood informally known as La Rata in Elche. She began playing football at the age of three, though her mother initially encouraged her to take up rhythmic gymnastics instead.
Club career
Martínez began her senior career at Elche, playing for both the B team and the first team between 2016 and 2017. She then moved to Sporting Plaza Argel, where she played from 2017 to 2019. In July 2019, she transferred to Valencia, joining the club's B team before breaking into the first team. She made her official debut for Valencia on 8 September 2019. In March 2023, she extended her contract with Valencia through June 2025.
International career
Martínez has represented Spain at various youth levels, including the U17, U19, U20, and U23 teams. She was part of the Spain U20 squad that won the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in 2022. She made her senior debut for the Spain national team on 6 April 2023, coming on as a substitute against Norway.
