Ashneel Sudhakar

Ashneel Sudhakar (born October 18, 1978) is a Fijian former politician and lawyer who served as the Attorney General of Fiji from 2018 to 2020. A member of the FijiFirst party, he also held the portfolio of Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts from 2016 to 2020.

Early Life and Education

Sudhakar was born on October 18, 1978. He pursued his higher education at the University of the South Pacific, where he studied law, obtaining a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree. He later completed his Professional Diploma in Legal Practice (PDLP) before being admitted to the bar.

Career

Before entering politics, Sudhakar practiced as a lawyer. His legal career provided him with a foundation for his later public service.

Political Career

Sudhakar was first elected to the Parliament of Fiji in the 2014 general election as a candidate for the FijiFirst party. Following his election, he was appointed to various government roles.

In September 2016, he was appointed as the Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, a position he held until April 2020. During his tenure, he oversaw the administration and policy direction for Fiji's education system and cultural institutions.

In August 2018, he was appointed as the Attorney General of Fiji, succeeding Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. As Attorney General, he served as the principal legal advisor to the government and was responsible for the administration of justice. He continued to hold the education portfolio concurrently for a period.

Sudhakar resigned from his ministerial portfolios and from Parliament in April 2020. He subsequently resigned from the FijiFirst party in 2022.
