Asen Ivanov Bukarev (Bulgarian: Асен Иванов Букарев; born 18 October 1979) is a Bulgarian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder and is currently a football manager.
Early Life and Playing Career Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, Bukarev began his professional career in the late 1990s. He primarily played as an attacking midfielder. Throughout his career, Bukarev represented several prominent Bulgarian clubs, including two stints with one of the country's most successful teams, Levski Sofia. During his time with Levski, he won the Bulgarian Cup in the 2004–05 season.
Other notable clubs Bukarev played for include Cherno More Varna, Marek Dupnitsa, and Lokomotiv Sofia in Bulgaria. He also had a period playing abroad, notably for Apollon Limassol in the Cypriot First Division. Bukarev was known for his technical ability and vision on the field. He retired from professional football in the early 2010s.
Managerial Career Following his retirement as a player, Bukarev transitioned into coaching. He has managed several clubs in the Bulgarian football league system. His managerial stints include:
- Spartak Varna: Bukarev served as manager for the club.
- Botev Vratsa: He took charge of Botev Vratsa, aiming to improve their performance in the Bulgarian First League.
- He has also held assistant coaching roles and worked with youth teams, further developing his coaching philosophy.
Bukarev continues to be involved in Bulgarian football, either as a manager or in coaching capacities, utilizing his extensive experience from his playing days.
