Arnold Mühren (born 8 May 1951) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He is noted for his successful club career in the Netherlands and England, as well as his appearances for the Netherlands national team.
Overview
Born in Volendam, North Holland, Mühren began his senior career with hometown club FC Volendam in 1970. After four seasons, he transferred to Feyenoord (1974–1976) and subsequently to AFC Ajax (1976–1979), where he was part of the team that won the 1978–79 European Cup. In 1979 he moved to England, joining Ipswich Town. With Ipswich, he won the 1980–81 UEFA Cup. He later signed for Manchester United (1981–1984), winning the 1982–83 FA Cup. Mühren returned to Ajax for a final playing spell (1984–1986) before retiring.
Internationally, Mühren earned eight caps for the Netherlands national team between 1977 and 1978 and was selected for the Dutch squad at the 1978 FIFA World Cup, although he did not appear in a match during the tournament.
After his playing career, Mühren has been involved in football as a scout and occasional coach, though his post‑retirement activities have been limited in public documentation.
