Argimiro España

Argimiro España (born March 13 or 15, 1950) is a Spanish former professional road cyclist. Active primarily during the 1970s, España was known for his strong climbing abilities and consistent performances in stage races, particularly the Vuelta a España.

Born in Burlada, Navarre, Spain, España turned professional in 1974. He competed for several notable Spanish teams throughout his career, including KAS and Teka. His professional career spanned from 1974 to 1979.

Career Highlights: España's most significant achievements came in his home country's Grand Tour, the Vuelta a España, where he consistently placed high in the general classification:

  • 1975 Vuelta a España: Finished 6th overall.
  • 1976 Vuelta a España: Achieved his best Grand Tour result, securing 5th place in the general classification.
  • 1977 Vuelta a España: Finished 7th overall and won Stage 8.

Beyond the Grand Tours, España also claimed victories in other important Spanish races:

  • 1975: Winner of the general classification of the Vuelta a La Rioja.
  • 1977: Winner of the general classification of the Vuelta a Asturias.
  • 1977: Winner of the Prueba Villafranca de Ordizia (also known as the Clásica de Ordizia).
