The species was first described by the entomologist Paul Mabille in 1880.

Distribution
Archichlora phyllobrota is recorded from the island of Madagascar. Reports of its presence elsewhere in the Afrotropical region are limited or absent in the primary literature.

Habitat
The moth inhabits forested environments, particularly tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests. It is presumed to be nocturnal, as is typical for members of the family Geometridae.
