Aquiraz

Aquiraz is a municipality in the state of Ceará, located in the Northeast region of Brazil. It forms part of the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza and lies on the Atlantic coast.

Geography

History

Portuguese colonists established a settlement in the early 17th century, and the Fortaleza de Aquiraz was constructed in 1629 to defend the coastline against Dutch and French incursions. Aquiraz was officially incorporated as an independent municipality in 1933, separating from the municipality of Fortaleza.
