Anti-prom

An anti-prom is a dance or social event organized as an alternative to a traditional high school prom. These events often arise as a response to the perceived exclusivity, formality, or expense associated with traditional proms. Anti-proms may be organized by students, community groups, or alternative organizations. They often feature different themes, music styles, dress codes (or lack thereof), and atmospheres than traditional proms. Some anti-proms are designed to be inclusive spaces for students who feel marginalized or excluded from mainstream prom culture, such as LGBTQ+ students, students with alternative lifestyles, or those who simply prefer a less conventional social gathering. Anti-proms can vary greatly in size and scope, ranging from small gatherings in private homes to larger, more organized events held in rented venues.
