Anthony Road

Anthony Road is a road name found in multiple locations worldwide, most notably as a major highway in Tasmania, Australia, and as a historic street in Singapore.

Anthony Road, Tasmania (Route B28)

The Anthony Road (Route B28) is a 38.5 km (24 mi) rural road in Western Tasmania, running from the Murchison Highway (A10) at Tullah to the Zeehan Highway (A10) north of Queenstown. Along with the Lyell Highway, it is one of only two roads that run within or cross the West Coast Range. The road is named after the Anthony River, which is located in the West Coast Range. It is commonly used as a bypass of Rosebery for travelers heading south to Queenstown or north to Tullah. The Anthony Road is the only road from which all major peaks of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair reserve can be seen, and it provides access to several classic walks including Mount Murchison, the Dora Plateau, and the Tyndall Range. The road runs close to natural and man-made lakes in the upper reaches of the Murchison River catchment of the Pieman River power scheme, including Lake Plimsoll, Lake Selina, and Lake Westwood. It also serves as an access road for the Henty Gold Mine.

Anthony Road, Singapore

Anthony Road is a short road located within the Newton Planning Area of central Singapore, providing a direct connection between Cairnhill Road on its western end and Clemenceau Avenue North on the eastern side. The road was named in the early 20th century, most likely after a colonial official or prominent resident named Anthony. It lies within District 9, one of Singapore's most prestigious residential areas, and is near Orchard Road, the city's premier shopping district. Notable landmarks within walking distance include Anglo-Chinese School (Junior) and Newton Food Centre. The nearest MRT stations are Orchard (NS22/TE14) and Newton (DT11/NS21).

Other Locations

Additional streets named Anthony Road exist in Exeter, Devon, United Kingdom; Cape Town, South Africa; and elsewhere.
