António Costa Pinto (born 1953) is a Portuguese political scientist and historian. He is known for his scholarly work on the politics of authoritarian regimes, the history of Portuguese democracy, and European integration.
Early life and education
- Born in Portugal in 1953.
- Earned a licentiate degree in History from the University of Lisbon.
- Completed his doctoral studies in Political Science at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.
Academic career
- Professor of Political Science at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais (ICS) of the University of Lisbon.
- Former director of the Centre for European Studies (CES) at the University of Lisbon.
- Visiting professor at several European universities, including the University of Oxford and the University of Lausanne.

- The political development of Portugal during the Estado Novo (1933‑1974) and the transition to democracy.
