Anordiol

Anordiol is a brand name for a type of combination oral contraceptive pill. It is primarily recognized for its availability and use in certain markets, notably in the Philippines. The medication is formulated with two primary active pharmaceutical ingredients:

  • Ethinylestradiol: A synthetic estrogen, which primarily functions to suppress the release of gonadotropins from the pituitary gland, thereby inhibiting ovulation and stabilizing the uterine lining.
  • Levonorgestrel: A synthetic progestin, which contributes to contraception by suppressing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to impede sperm penetration, and altering the uterine lining to prevent implantation of a fertilized egg.

Anordiol works by mimicking the hormonal signals that naturally occur during pregnancy, thereby preventing the ovaries from releasing an egg. It also creates an environment within the uterus that is inhospitable for conception. As a prescription medication, its use is intended for birth control to prevent pregnancy and should always be administered under the supervision and advice of a qualified healthcare professional.
