Anna Christy (born 1972) is an American operatic soprano known for performances in the lyric and soubrette repertoire. She has appeared at major opera houses and concert venues worldwide, including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, La Scala, San Francisco Opera, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
Early life and education
Christy was born in the United States. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Boston University, where she studied voice under the tutelage of Phyllis Curtin. She subsequently participated in the Merola Opera Program and the Tanglewood Music Center, receiving advanced training in operatic performance.
Career
Christy made her professional debut in the late 1990s. In 2000, she debuted at the Metropolitan Opera as Musetta in Puccini's La Bohème. Subsequent engagements at the Met have included roles such as Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni and Sophie in Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier. Internationally, she has performed leading roles such as Susanna in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto.
In addition to staged opera, Christy is active as a concert and recital artist, performing works ranging from Baroque cantatas to contemporary song cycles. She has recorded several albums, including a collection of Mozart arias released on the Deutsche Grammophon label, which received a Grammy nomination for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album.
