Angela Park (Korean: 박혜인; born August 25, 1988) is a Brazilian-American former professional golfer who played on the LPGA Tour. She was born in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, Brazil to South Korean-born parents. At age 8, she moved with her father and siblings to Torrance, California, where she attended Torrance High School. She holds dual citizenship in Brazil and the United States.
Amateur Career: Park was successful in the American Junior Golf Association, winning five times and posting 24 top-10 finishes in 29 events over four seasons. In 2005, she reached the semi-finals of the U.S. Women's Amateur.
Professional Career: She turned professional at age 17 in April 2006, competing on the Futures Tour. She earned full LPGA playing privileges for 2007 at the December 2006 LPGA Qualifying Tournament and was named LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year for 2007. Angela Park was an amusement park located along PA Route 309 in Drums, Pennsylvania. It operated from 1957 through 1988.
History: The park was named in honor of Angeline Barletta, the matriarch of the Barletta family, who had envisioned developing the land into an amusement park before her death in 1952. Her family carried out her idea, and the park opened on May 12, 1957. It was owned and operated by the Barletta family until 1985, when it was sold to Mirth Master Corporation of Chester County, Pennsylvania.
Features: The park originally had six rides, including a carousel, miniature train, and a roller coaster. Over the years, it expanded to include an Olympic-size swimming pool, a miniature golf course, batting cages, a golf driving range, and additional rides such as the Paratrooper, Tilt-A-Whirl, Sky Ride, and Giant Slide. The park's sole roller coaster was called Valley Volcano, designed by John C. Allen. It also hosted nationally known entertainment acts, including Buffalo Bob Smith and the Howdy Doody Show.
Closure: After the 1988 season, Mirth Master Corporation filed for bankruptcy. In 1990, the rides and equipment were auctioned off. During the late 1990s, many buildings were razed. The property is currently owned by New Land Development of Lackawanna County and remains undeveloped.
