Andrew “Andy” Gilpin (14 March 1921 – 31 July 2014) was a Canadian ice hockey player who was a member of the Ottawa RCAF Flyers, the team that represented Canada and won the gold medal in ice hockey at the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
Born in Montreal, Quebec, Gilpin served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War before joining the Flyers, a squad composed primarily of military personnel. Following his Olympic participation, he retired from competitive hockey and pursued a civilian career, eventually working for the Canadian National Railway. Gilpin resided in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he died at the age of 93.
The 1948 Olympic victory marked Canada’s first post‑war gold medal in ice hockey, and the RCAF Flyers, including Gilpin, were later inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame.
