Andrzej Kościelecki

Andrzej Kościelecki (died 1515) was a Polish nobleman (szlachcic) of the Jastrzębiec coat of arms, a prominent statesman, and a patron of the arts during the reign of King Sigismund I the Old.

Son of Jan Kościelecki, he belonged to one of the wealthiest and most influential magnate families in the Kingdom of Poland. Kościelecki held several key offices within the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth's administration, demonstrating significant political and financial power. His notable positions included:

  • Grand Treasurer of the Crown (podskarbi wielki koronny): From 1509 until his death in 1515, he was responsible for the royal finances and treasury, a position of immense trust and influence.
  • Voivode of Sandomierz (wojewoda sandomierski): Appointed in 1515, this was a high-ranking provincial administrative and military office.
  • Castellan of Małogoszcz.

Kościelecki was renowned for his vast personal fortune, which allowed him to maintain a lavish lifestyle and exert considerable influence at the royal court. He was also a known patron of artistic and architectural endeavors, reflective of the cultural trends among the Polish elite of his time. His marriage was to Katarzyna Siennicka.

His career, though cut short by his death in 1515, left a mark on the political and financial landscape of early 16th-century Poland. He is remembered as one of the most powerful and affluent figures of his era.
