Andrzej Kanthak

Andrzej Kanthak (born 1957) is a Polish politician and lawyer. He served as a Deputy to the Sejm (the lower house of the Polish parliament) for two terms, from 1991 to 1997. During his political career, he held various governmental and parliamentary roles, contributing to the post-communist transformation of Poland.

Political Career

Kanthak's political career began in the early 1990s following the collapse of communism in Poland.

  • Sejm Deputy (1991-1997): He was first elected to the Sejm in the 1991 parliamentary elections, representing the Liberal Democratic Congress (KLD). He was re-elected in 1993, serving until 1997. During his time in parliament, he was active in legislative work, particularly concerning economic transformation and public administration.
  • Deputy Minister of Transport (1992-1993): From 1992 to 1993, Kanthak served as the Secretary of State (Deputy Minister) in the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Economy in the government led by Prime Minister Hanna Suchocka. In this role, he was involved in significant reforms of Poland's transport infrastructure and maritime policies.
  • Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly: As a Sejm Deputy, he also served as a delegate to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, participating in international parliamentary cooperation and human rights initiatives.
  • Political Affiliations: Initially a member of the Liberal Democratic Congress (KLD), he later joined the Freedom Union (UW) after the merger of KLD with the Democratic Union (UD) in 1994.

After concluding his tenure in the Sejm, Andrzej Kanthak returned to his professional career as a lawyer. He has since continued to practice law, specializing in areas such as economic law and public administration.
