Andrew Messenger

Andrew Messenger is a British diplomat who has served in various roles within the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). He currently holds the position of British Ambassador to Cuba, having been appointed in August 2022.

Career Andrew Messenger joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), now part of the FCDO, in 2000. His diplomatic career has included a range of postings and policy roles.

Prior to his appointment as Ambassador to Cuba, Messenger's roles included:

  • ChargĂ© d'affaires, UK Mission to the United Nations in Geneva: In this capacity, he represented the United Kingdom's interests across a range of UN agencies and conferences.
  • Head of Human Rights Policy, FCDO: He was responsible for leading the formulation and implementation of UK foreign policy related to human rights globally.
  • First Secretary, British Embassy in Washington D.C.
  • Various roles at the British Embassy in Rome.

In March 2022, the FCDO announced Messenger's appointment as Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba, succeeding Antony Stokes. He assumed his duties in Havana in August 2022, presenting his credentials to the Cuban government.
