Career
McArthur began his musical career releasing solo work, with an eponymous album Andrew McArthur released in 2007. His solo material often showcases a blend of folk influences with indie and experimental rock elements.His most prominent work, however, began with the formation of the band that would become The Phantom Band. Initially known as 'Migrating Birds', the Glasgow-based group quickly garnered attention for their unique sound, which combines elements of krautrock, electronica, folk, and post-punk. McArthur's distinctive baritone vocals and often enigmatic, poetic lyrics are a hallmark of the band's sound.
The Phantom Band released their critically acclaimed debut album, Checkmate Savage, in 2009. This was followed by The Wants (2010), Strange Friend (2014), and Praise Be (2015), all of which solidified their reputation for intricate musicianship and innovative songwriting. McArthur's role extends beyond vocals and songwriting, often contributing guitar and other instruments.
