Andre Stoop

Andre Stoop (born 8 October 1960) is a Namibian former rugby union and rugby league footballer who played primarily as a fullback. He began his senior rugby union career in South Africa, representing domestic clubs and earning caps for the Namibia national rugby union team. In 1991, Stoop switched codes to rugby league, moving to the United Kingdom where he played for several clubs, including Wigan, the London Crusaders, and the Keighley Cougars, until 1996. After his league stint, he returned to rugby union, signing with a South African side before retiring from professional play.

Stoop’s contributions to Namibian rugby have been noted for helping raise the profile of the sport in the country during the early 1990s. Following his playing career, he has been involved in coaching and development initiatives within Namibian rugby circles, working to nurture junior talent.
