Anatoliy Petrovych Kazmirchuk (Ukrainian: Анатолій Петрович Казмірчук; born 26 June 1970) is a Ukrainian military doctor and Major General of the Medical Service who serves as the Commander of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Early Life and Education
Kazmirchuk was born on 26 June 1970 in the village of Shevchenkove, Khmilnyk Raion, Vinnytsia Oblast, then part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic within the Soviet Union. In 1993, he graduated from the Faculty of Training Doctors for the Navy at the S. M. Kirov Military Medical Academy. He also studied at the Ukrainian Military Medical Academy.
Career
Kazmirchuk began his professional career in 1997 as a senior resident at the National Military Medical Clinical Centre "GVKH" (Main Military Clinical Hospital) in Kyiv. He rose through the ranks over the following years and served as head of the National Military Medical Clinical Centre "GVKH" from 2012 to 2023.
On 1 December 2023, Kazmirchuk was officially appointed Commander of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. His appointment followed the dismissal of his predecessor, Major General Tetiana Ostashchenko, in November 2023 amid concerns over faulty medical equipment and training deficiencies that had reportedly contributed to loss of life. At his swearing-in ceremony, Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov emphasized the need to combine NATO approaches with Ukrainian combat experience in military medicine.
Recognition and Titles
Kazmirchuk holds the titles of Honoured Doctor of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, and Professor. He is a Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology and a Laureate of the Prize of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for the development and implementation of innovative technologies.
Role During the Russian Invasion
As Commander of the Medical Forces, Kazmirchuk has been involved in modernizing Ukraine's military medical system during the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. His work has focused on integrating NATO standards with Ukraine's combat experience to improve soldier survivability and implementing digital systems in military medicine.
Personal Life
Kazmirchuk is married and has a son, who is also a military doctor serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
