Amon Sur was born on the planet Ungara, the homeworld of his father, Abin Sur, the Green Lantern of Sector 2814. Abin Sur was a highly respected and noble member of the Green Lantern Corps, known for his wisdom and bravery. However, Abin Sur tragically died in a crash landing on Earth, passing his power ring to Hal Jordan, who became his successor.
Amon grew up with a deep resentment towards the Green Lantern Corps. He believed that the Corps had abandoned his father and failed to protect him, leading to his death. This perception fueled a growing anger and a desire for vengeance against the organization he saw as responsible for his loss.
Amon eventually formed a powerful criminal organization called the Black Circle, through which he engaged in various illicit activities across the cosmos. He sought to exploit vulnerabilities and sow chaos, often clashing with various Green Lanterns. His first significant encounter was with Kyle Rayner, the then-current Green Lantern of Sector 2814.
