Description
Amandinea punctata is a crustose lichen that forms thin, flat thalli tightly adherent to the substrate. The thallus is typically whitish to pale gray, sometimes with a faintly yellowish hue. It is characterized by numerous small, punctate (dot‑like) apothecia that appear as black, often slightly raised discs scattered across the surface. The apothecia are lecanorine, possessing a margin that is similar in color and texture to the thallus. Ascospores are hyaline, simple, and ellipsoid, measuring roughly 10–15 µm in length.

Habitat and Distribution
The species is saxicolous, primarily growing on siliceous rocks, concrete, and occasionally on bark of trees in open, sunny locations. It tolerates a range of climatic conditions and is widely distributed across temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, including Europe, North America, and parts of Asia. It is also reported from some montane regions of the Southern Hemisphere, though records are less common.

Ecology
Amandinea punctata is a pioneer lichen that can colonize bare rock surfaces, contributing to the early stages of biogeochemical weathering. It is tolerant of pollution and can be found in urban settings on stone monuments and building facades. The lichen forms a symbiotic association between a mycobiont (the fungal partner) and a photosynthetic partner, typically a green alga of the genus Trebouxia.

Reproductive Biology
Reproduction occurs primarily via sexual spores produced in the apothecia. Asexual propagation may also take place through soredia or isidia, although these structures are not prominent in this species.

Conservation Status
The species is generally considered common and not under immediate threat. However, localized declines may occur where substrate availability is reduced or where chemical pollutants exceed the lichen’s tolerance levels. No global IUCN assessment is currently available.
