History
Alzada originated in the late 19th century as a railroad stop on the Montana Central Railway, which later became part of the Great Northern Railway system. The community developed as a service point for nearby ranching operations and as a stagecoach and freight hub. The name “Alzada” is believed to derive from a local personal name or possibly from the Spanish word alzada, meaning “raised” or “uplifted,” though definitive etymology is not documented.
