Alun Armstrong (born 22 April 1975) is an English former professional footballer who played as a striker, and is currently a football manager.
Playing Career Armstrong began his professional playing career at Ipswich Town, making his debut in 1993. He established himself as a forward for the club, making over 100 appearances and scoring 23 goals during his initial spell. His performances attracted interest from higher-division clubs, leading to a move to Middlesbrough in 1998 for a fee of £1.5 million. At Middlesbrough, he was part of the squad that reached the FA Cup final in 1997–98 and played a role in their Premier League campaigns.
After leaving Middlesbrough, Armstrong had further spells at Ipswich Town (on loan), Bradford City, and Sheffield Wednesday. In 2004, he joined Darlington, where he became a key player and a prolific goalscorer. He also played for Doncaster Rovers, Stockport County, and Newcastle Blue Star before retiring from professional playing in 2011.
Managerial Career Following his retirement as a player, Armstrong transitioned into football management. He began his managerial career at Blyth Spartans, initially as joint-manager in 2016 before taking sole charge. Under his leadership, Blyth Spartans achieved promotion to the National League North in the 2016–17 season.
In 2019, Armstrong was appointed manager of King's Lynn Town. He quickly made an impact, guiding the club to promotion to the National League in his first season, a significant achievement for the club. He remained with King's Lynn Town until 2023.
In 2023, Armstrong took charge of South Shields, continuing his career as a manager in non-league football.
