Description
Alseis is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the coffee family (Rubiaceae). Species in this genus are typically evergreen trees or shrubs that produce opposite, simple leaves and small, white to yellowish flowers arranged in inflorescences. The fruit is a drupe containing one or two seeds.
Geographic distribution
Members of the genus are native to tropical regions of the Americas, with occurrences reported from Central America (e.g., Panama, Costa Rica) through northern South America, including the Amazon basin, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil.
Ecology
Alseis species are found in lowland tropical rainforests, often occupying riverine or flood‑plain habitats. They contribute to forest canopy structure and serve as a food source for various frugivorous birds and mammals that disperse their seeds.

Taxonomic history
The genus was first described by French botanist Jean Baptiste Christophore Fusée Aublet in 1775, based on specimens collected in French Guiana. Subsequent revisions have refined species boundaries, but the genus has remained within Rubiaceae throughout its taxonomic history.
