Alp Grüm railway station

Alp Grüm railway station is a railway station on the Bernina line, located in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. It is situated at an elevation of 2,091 meters (6,860 ft) above sea level on the southern side of the Bernina Pass. The station is operated by the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) and serves as a key point on the mountain crossing between St. Moritz, Switzerland, and Tirano, Italy.

The station is notable for its geographical positioning and lack of road access; it is reachable only by train or by foot via mountain trails. It is located south of the Ospizio Bernina station and north of Cavaglia. To the south of the station, the railway performs a 180-degree curve and descends into the Val Poschiavo via a series of circular tunnels and steep gradients, reaching a maximum inclination of 7%.

The current station building, which includes a hotel and a restaurant, was constructed between 1923 and 1925. It is built from local stone to withstand the harsh alpine environment. From the station terrace, there are views of the Palü Glacier, the Bernina Range, and the valley of Poschiavo.

Alp Grüm is part of the "Rhaetian Railway in the Albula / Bernina Landscapes," which was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2008. The station serves both as a functional transit point for regional and tourist trains, such as the Bernina Express, and as a destination for hikers and winter sports enthusiasts. All trains operating on the line, with the exception of certain express services during specific seasons, typically stop at this location.
