Alone (Marshmello song)

"Alone" is a single by American DJ and record producer Marshmello. It was first released in May 2016, then later released as a digital download on June 17, 2016 on iTunes and for streaming on Spotify. The song was written and produced by Marshmello (Christopher Comstock) and was released under the Monstercat label. It is classified under the genres of trap and future bass, with a length of 4:33 for the original mix and 3:20 for the radio edit. The song appears on Marshmello's album Cataclysm.

Upon its release, "Alone" charted on the Canadian Hot 100 at number 56 and the US Billboard Hot 100 at number 60. In February 2019, it reached a new peak of number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 after being featured in a virtual concert by Marshmello within the video game Fortnite Battle Royale. It is the first and only Monstercat song to be certified Platinum (or higher) by the RIAA, and as of July 2025, its music video has received over 2.6 billion views on YouTube.

The music video, released on July 2, 2016, was filmed at The Pegasus School in California. It depicts Marshmello being bullied by schoolmates, with a sympathetic classmate discovering his music production at home and sharing a video that makes him popular overnight. The video is the 26th most liked YouTube video. It includes a reference to Canadian producer deadmau5 (Joel Zimmerman), with a rat in a cage labeled "Joel," in response to a series of critical tweets from deadmau5 about Marshmello.

In 2017, Vice ranked "Alone" as the eighth best EDM song of all time. The song has received multi-platinum certifications in the United States (5× Platinum) and platinum certifications in Canada and New Zealand, as well as gold certifications in Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
