Allopeas hedeius is a species of small, tropical, air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Achatinidae.
Taxonomy
The species was originally described by Jules Mabille in 1887 under the name Opeas hedeius. It was later reclassified into the genus Allopeas. Its current binomial name is Allopeas hedeius (Mabille, 1887).
Description
The shell is small, perforate, and elongate-turriculate (tower-shaped) in form. It is fragile and corneous (horn-like in texture) with a subtle glossy sheen, and is adorned with fine, closely spaced, arched striations. The slender spire tapers to a small, shiny, slightly pointed apex. The shell comprises nine whorls that exhibit steady, slightly rapid growth with gentle convexity, separated by a distinct, slightly margined suture delicately embellished with granules. The body whorl is subcylindrical and slightly swollen, accounting for about one-third of the shell's total height. The shell attains a length of 15 mm and a diameter of 3 mm.
Distribution
This species has been recorded in Kenya. The holotype was originally collected in Tonkin (the northern region of Vietnam).
