Alex Dampier (born 4 August 1950) is a Canadian‑born former ice‑hockey defenceman and coach who spent the majority of his professional career in the United Kingdom. Born in St. Thomas, Ontario, Dampier began his playing career in Canada before moving to the UK in the late 1970s. He played primarily for the Nottingham Panthers (1978–1984) and the Durham Wasps (1984–1988), establishing himself as a reliable defensive player and occasional scorer.
After retiring as a player, Dampier transitioned to coaching. He served as head coach of the Nottingham Panthers (1988–1992) and later coached the Durham Wasps, leading the latter to a league championship in the 1991–1992 season. Dampier also held the position of head coach for the Great Britain national ice‑hockey team from 1998 to 2005, overseeing the team's promotion to the elite division of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships in 2002.
In recognition of his contributions to British ice hockey, Dampier was inducted into the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004. Following his coaching tenure, he worked in various administrative and developmental roles within the sport, including involvement with junior player development programs. Dampier remains a notable figure in the history of ice hockey in the United Kingdom.
