Alessandro Frigerio

Alessandro Frigerio Payán (15 November 1914 – 10 January 1979) was a Swiss‑Colombian footballer who played as a forward. He represented the Switzerland national team and later worked as a player‑manager.

Early life

Frigerio was born in Tumaco, Colombia, to Swiss consul Reinaldo Frigerio and Colombian María Payán. He spent his early childhood in Buenaventura, Colombia, before moving to Switzerland at age eight.

Frigerio helped Young Fellows win the Swiss Cup in 1935‑36 and was the top scorer of the Nationalliga in 1936‑37. While at Le Havre he contributed to the club’s French Division 2 championship in 1937‑38. Returning to Switzerland, he won the Nationalliga with Lugano in 1940‑41 and was top scorer again in the 1940‑41 and 1941‑42 seasons.

International career

Frigerio earned ten caps for the Switzerland national team between 1932 and 1937, scoring once—a goal in a 2–2 draw against Yugoslavia during a 1934 World Cup qualifier. He was selected for the squad at the 1938 World Cup but did not appear in any matches.

Managerial career
