Alegría Crespo is an Ecuadorian educator, academic, and public official who currently serves as the Minister of Education of Ecuador. She was appointed to the position by President Daniel Noboa in April 2024.
Crespo holds a Doctorate (PhD) in Education from the Universidad del Rosario in Argentina and a Master’s degree in Education. Her professional career prior to entering public office was primarily established within the private educational sector and academia. She has served in various administrative roles, including positions as a vice-rector and director at several educational institutions in Ecuador.
In addition to her administrative work, Crespo is an author and commentator on pedagogical issues. Her work frequently focuses on emotional intelligence, values-based education, and child development. She is the author of the book Pequeños Gigantes: Guía práctica para padres y educadores (Little Giants: A Practical Guide for Parents and Educators), which addresses the role of family and school in early childhood development.
As the Minister of Education, her responsibilities include the management of the national educational system, the implementation of public policy regarding primary and secondary schooling, and addressing systemic challenges such as infrastructure maintenance and the safety of students within the context of Ecuador's internal security situation.
