Alan Ford (comics)

Alan Ford is an Italian comic book series created by Magnus (Roberto Raviola) and Max Bunker (Luciano Secchi). It debuted in May 1969 and is known for its satirical humor, grotesque characters, and surreal storylines. The comic blends elements of spy fiction, slapstick comedy, and social commentary, often parodying consumerism, politics, and societal norms.

The titular character, Alan Ford, is a young, naive, and penniless aspiring artist who is mistakenly recruited into "Gruppo TNT" (TNT Group), a dysfunctional and highly eccentric secret agent organization based in a flower shop in New York City. The group is led by the miserly and tyrannical Numero Uno (Number One), a wheelchair-bound, nearly-immortal former WW1 veteran. Other notable members include Bob Rock, a short-tempered, physically deformed agent; Grunf, an inventive but often incomprehensible agent with a penchant for creating absurd gadgets; and Otto Von Grunt, a German Shepherd who is considered one of the group’s most competent members.

Alan Ford's popularity has endured for decades, particularly in Italy and the former Yugoslavia (especially Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, and North Macedonia). The comic's unique style and humor have made it a cult classic, influencing subsequent generations of comic creators and artists. Despite its initial lukewarm reception in Italy, it eventually achieved considerable commercial success and critical acclaim.
