Alain Santy

Alain Santy (born 16 August 1949) is a Belgian former professional road cyclist. Active primarily in the 1970s, Santy was known for his capabilities in both stage races and the spring Classics.

Born in Gits, West Flanders, Santy turned professional in 1970. His career was marked by several significant achievements, particularly in one-day races and shorter stage races.

Key career highlights include:

  • 1971: Winner of the Tour of Belgium (Ronde van België), a prestigious national stage race.
  • 1977: A standout year for Santy in the spring Classics. He achieved a notable second-place finish in Paris–Roubaix, one of cycling's five Monuments, famously finishing behind fellow Belgian Roger De Vlaeminck. In the same year, he secured a third-place finish in Liège–Bastogne–Liège, another Monument race.
  • He also won a stage in the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré during his career.

Santy participated in the Tour de France multiple times, demonstrating his versatility across different types of races. He retired from professional cycling in 1978.
