Alaena rosei is a species of butterfly in the family Lycaenidae. It was first described by R.I. Vane-Wright in 1980.
Distribution: The species is endemic to Angola, where it is known only from two localities: the area near Gabela (specifically 16 km east of Gabela, its type locality) and the vicinity of Lubango (formerly Sá da Bandeira).
Taxonomy: It belongs to the genus Alaena, commonly known as Zulus, within the subfamily Poritiinae (tribe Liptenini, subtribe Pentilina). The genus Alaena comprises approximately 25 species, all endemic to the Afrotropical realm. Some recent taxonomic treatments have placed the species in the genus Gabelana (as Gabelana rosei).
Description: As a member of the Lycaenidae family (gossamer-winged butterflies), it shares the characteristic small size and often metallic coloration typical of the group, though specific morphological details of this species are limited in the available literature.
