Early Life and College Career Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bunge attended the University of Pittsburgh. He played college football for the Pitt Panthers, where he distinguished himself as a lineman.
Professional Career Bunge was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 12th round of the 1942 NFL Draft (97th overall). He began his professional career with the Eagles, playing for them during the 1942 and 1943 seasons. His career was then interrupted by his service in the United States military during World War II.
After the war, Bunge returned to the NFL in 1946, joining his hometown team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he played for one season before concluding his professional playing career.
Post-Playing Career Following his retirement from professional football, Bunge transitioned to a career in coaching. He became a well-regarded high school football coach, most notably at Braddock High School in Braddock, Pennsylvania, where he led his teams for many years.
