Akiva Nof

Akiva Nof (Hebrew: עקיבא נוף; born September 12, 1937) is an Israeli architect, lyricist, and politician. He is best known for writing the lyrics to "Shir LaShalom" ("Song for Peace"), a popular Israeli song that became an anthem for the peace movement.

Nof was born in Tel Aviv and studied architecture at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. In addition to his architectural work, he became involved in music, writing lyrics for numerous Israeli songs, with "Shir LaShalom" being his most famous contribution.

In politics, Nof served as a member of the Knesset for the Likud party from 1981 to 1984. During his time in parliament, he was involved in various committees and worked on issues related to housing and construction.

"Shir LaShalom," performed by the Lahakat Hanachal army band, gained widespread popularity in Israel and was often sung at political rallies and events. Tragically, Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin sang the song shortly before his assassination in 1995, and a blood-stained lyric sheet of the song was found in his pocket. This event further solidified the song's place in Israeli cultural and political history.
