Aishath Shiham

Aishath Shiham (Dhivehi: އައިޝަތު ޝިހާމް; born 15 February 1964) is a Maldivian politician who has served as the Minister of Social and Family Development since 17 November 2023, in the cabinet of President Mohamed Muizzu.

Early life and education
Shiham was born in Galolhu, Malé, Maldives. She earned a Bachelor of Guidance and Counselling from the University of the South Pacific, followed by a Master of Counselling Psychology and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Newcastle University (United Kingdom).

Political career

  • Minister of Education (2013–2018) – Shiham was appointed Minister of Education on 21 November 2013 under President Abdulla Yameen, a position she held until 17 November 2018.
  • Minister of Social and Family Development (2023–present) – Following the election of President Mohamed Muizzu, Shiham was named Minister of Social and Family Development, succeeding Aishath Mohamed Didi.

Party affiliation
Since 2018, she has been a member of the People's National Congress, a political party in the Maldives.

Professional background
In addition to her ministerial roles, Shiham’s academic background in psychology and counselling informs her work on social welfare, family policy, and education reform.
